Code of Conduct
Our Commitment to Community
In the good spirit of being great humans and nurturing the deeply human connections that are central to our work, these are some things you should do to keep everyone feeling safe and having a good time:

  • Put others first, be kind, and spark the community spirit that makes our online spaces vibrant places of learning.
  • Converse and collaborate with others. Our course platforms, discussion forums, and breakout rooms are places for meaningful collaboration and dialogue.
  • Respect others' digital presence, identity, and contributions.
  • Before you bring someone into a discussion, video call, or other dialogue, ask if they want to join.
  • Respect your colleagues' preferred names and pronouns. Matters of identity are vital to the humanizing work we do.
  • Be mindful about sharing any words, thoughts, or content that others post in course discussions, shared documents, or video sessions. Ask permission before quoting, screenshotting, or reposting.
  • The Lab embraces authentic participation. You may engage in our online spaces however feels most genuine to you—camera on or off, in whatever setting works for your life. With that in mind, be respectful of the choices others make about how they show up.

Harassment Policy (short version)
New Teaching Lab is dedicated to providing a harassment-free learning experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any Lab venue, including course platforms, discussion forums, video sessions, breakout rooms, or shared documents. Lab participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or removed from the course without a refund at the discretion of New Teaching Lab's leadership.

Harassment Policy (long version)
Harassment includes offensive verbal or written comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in online spaces, deliberate intimidation, persistent unwelcome contact, disruption of video sessions or online discussions, inappropriate private messaging, screenshotting or recording others without consent, and unwelcome sexual attention.

  • "No" means no.
  • “Stop" means stop.
  • Participation choices (camera use, microphone preferences, etc.) are not invitations for commentary.
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the Lab facilitators may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or removal from the course with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a course facilitator or New Teaching Lab staff immediately through private message or email.

We expect participants to follow these guidelines in all online course spaces and any Lab-related informal gatherings. We reserve the right to remove anyone from the Lab or events if they are acting outside this code of conduct.

Thank you for helping us create learning communities where critical hope and human connection can flourish!
